The Alternative Show collar is made specifically for owners, handlers and trainers that show dogs in the ring. Since Joel patented his Alternative Training Collar 10 years ago, he has met hundreds of breeders, owners, trainers, and handlers who have expressed an interest in having another option other than the “snake chain” or chain collar they use in the ring.

ALTERNATIVE TRAINING COLLAR VS ALTERNATIVE SHOW COLLAR
Although these two collars are very similar, the difference between the Alternative Show Collar and Joel’s Alternative Training Collar is that the Alternative Training Collar is used for training, and is about 1″ wide and made of a heavy leather. The Alternative Show Collar is more streamlined and only 1/2″ wide and made of biothane. After speaking to a number of breeders and handlers, we have learned that sometimes the use of chain can sometimes create a loss of hair around the front neck area, and this collar eliminates that problem.

HOW THESE ARE MADE
This collar is still made of a snake chain that so many breeders, handlers, and trainers are so used to, but the part that touches the dog’s neck around the front, is made of a soft biothane material. This biothane eliminates the chance of hair loss in that area, and also creates much more comfort. The biothan is extremely strong, and the small o-rings have a break strength of over 700 lbs. These come in five different colors: Black, White, Grey, Light Brown, and Dark Brown.

TRAINING
After speaking to several dog trainers and handlers who currently use our Alternative Training Collar, they have expressed an interest in actually training their dog at home in confirmation with the heavier Alternative Training Collar, but using the streamlined Alternative Show Collar in the ring.

FIGURING THE RIGHT SIZE
With these collars, we have made the chain portion substantially longer than the chain portion on our Alternative Training Collar. This is due to the fact we have noticed a lot of handlers like having that extra chain. Our recommendation is even if you are looking to purchase 12/24/48 collars, just purchase one collar, and try that out on your dogs. Just to make sure you get the right size. Although we cannot show you every breed, here is some help:

XXS – 8-10 lb. breeds
XS – 10-14 lb. breeds (Jack Russell Terriers etc.)
Small – 15-25 lb breeds (West Highland Terrier etc..)
Medium – 25-45 lb breeds (From 25 lb breeds to Border Collies and Aussies, Small Weimarainers)
Medium II – Smaller Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Larger Weimarainers, Irish Setters
Large – Larger Golden Retrievers, German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers
Extra Large – Mastiffs, St. Bernards etc..
